Mika Piirainen
A Finnish artist born in 1969, Mika Piirainen graduated from the Lahti Institute of Design and signed-on with Marimekko in 1994 as a fashion designer. His specialty lies in creating new bag designs but he also is adept in creating clothing, umbrellas, hats and accessories. Known for neat and uncluttered forms that pique attention with bold colors, all of his pieces are usable and practical for every woman. Showing an affinity for creating designs and styles that are truly universal and timeless, Piirainen is a designer of the people. He has said, “I design for all, from babies to grand old ladies. My oldest customer is an elegant 104-year-old!” This ability to please just about any customer is a true talent and the reason why he is a coveted designer at Marimekko.
