FinnStyle Scholarship
About the FinnStyle Scholarship Program:
Behind every product at FinnStyle is a brilliant designer. We proudly carry iconic pieces from some of the most well-known names in Finnish design, but also want to support the up-and-coming artists who will be creating the timeless designs of the future. This is why we partnered with the International School of Design and Art at Finlandia University in 2014 to establish the FinnStyle Scholarship Program. We are proud to offer a $1,000 scholarship each school year to one deserving first-year or second-year student, as a way to help them achieve their creative aspirations.
The 2016 FinnStyle Scholarship Recipient:
We are pleased to announce William R. Thompson as the recipient of the 2016 FinnStyle Scholarship. Thompson was born January 1, 1980 in Calumet, Michigan and graduated from Calumet High School. He is a disabled Marine veteran who was honorably discharged after four years of service. He then studied physical therapy at Finlandia University before moving to Maui, Hawaii, where he was artistically inspired by the natural surroundings, native songs, dance, and wood-working as well as numerous fine art galleries. Thompson recently returned to Finlandia to pursue his life-long love of the arts with renewed inspiration. Over the course of his life, he has enjoyed drawing with pencil, pen, and markers as well as wood carving. Thompson is now majoring in ceramics and hopes to pursue his Master’s degree in fine arts in order to instruct future artists. He currently lives in Hubbell, Michigan, where he is a married father of two children who are also artistically inclined.
