Considered a part of Finnish heritage, Fazer is a brand that most Finns have grown up with. Starting in 1891 as a small café in Helsinki by founder and Finland native Karl Fazer, Fazer has become one of the largest names in the Finnish food industry today. This brand is loved worldwide for its delicious taste, quality ingredients, and blue wrapper, which symbolizes pure Finnish nature and reflects the colors of the Finnish flag. Best known for the classic Fazer Blue candy bar, this beloved treat first appeared in 1922 yet stays true to its original recipe even today. It is made with fresh milk, sugar, cocoa mass and cocoa butter, and the difference is easy to taste. Giving Fazer chocolate is a Finnish tradition, but we recommend also stocking up for yourself before the end of the holiday season.
Other varieties of the original Fazer Blue are just as tasty and very popular, including dark, hazelnut and peppermint chocolate. Perhaps the second most famous wrapper is the red and white stripes of the Marianne candies, which look beautiful presented in a candy dish around the holidays. First produced in 1949, it was inspired by the candy canes that decorated holiday trees. The chocolate and mint combination was a new craving after World War Two and is just as popular today. Other favorites include Fazermints (mint-filled), Geisha (hazelnut-filled), and Dumles (toffee-filled), all of which make wonderful stocking stuffers.
