Visapaja

Finnish company Visapaja has been creating unique heat-treated ash and birch products since 1996. The workshop is located in a town called Mäntyharju 124 miles north of Helsinki. By using a special heat-treating process, Visapaja is able to alter the traditional properties of wood to create products that are less water absorbent which leads to increased durability and an extended life. Visually, the complex heating process gives the wood a rich, dark color by raising the temperature to approximately 392 degrees Fahrenheit in its tempering process.
