The aarikka jewelry tradition stretches back to the 1950s when Kaija Aarikka married wood with silver-colored metal. Kaija Aarikka's unique dyeing technique is still used to bring out all the beautiful shades and a silky finish for which aarikka jewelry is famous. Now a hallmark of Scandinavian design, aarikka jewelry is known around the globe. Wooden pieces continue to be a trait of many popular aarikka jewelry pieces.
During the past five decades, aarikka employed its own designers, and has also commissioned works from leading Finnish designers. Now directed by Pauliina Aarikka, daughter of the company´s founder, aarikka's design stays well-known for its strong, Scandinavian lines, circular shapes and use of wood as the primary material.
