  Ben af SchulténOne of the four founding members of the Finnish furniture company Artek, Ben af Schultén designed a several visionary furniture and lighting pieces for the company. Born in 1939, he began his career at the Artek drawing studio as an interior architect and hired to create new pieces of furniture to compliment the existing Aalto Collection. Eventually he became the artistic director of Artek, his designs and clear management skills made him the perfect candidate. His design work can be characterized as modern and relying more heavily on metal with a less organic flow than Alvar’s creations. Nevertheless, his designs are suitable on their own but they also complement other Artek furniture pieces
