Aino Aalto won the 1932 iittala-Karhula design competition in Finland and the gold prize at the Milan Triennale in 1936 for her functionalist glassware collection. Aino Aalto’s namesake design is iittala’s oldest product and stands for the epitome of mind-made design. Her glassware and dinnerware series are the first glass products intentionally designed with everyday use in mind, yet adaptable for modern production methods. Developed in the true spirit of functionalism, Aino Aalto’s glassware is so simple and timeless in form it is no surprise it still graces tables around the world 70 years later.

They have a good weight, are easy to grip, and have a silky smooth touch-very high quality. The glasses come out of the dishwasher beautifully. These tumblers are lovely and sturdy enough to survive my children's not-so-gentle handling. We mix and match these light blue tumblers with the apple green and clear colors. They are beautiful to look at and feel secure in the hand, and are quite affordable, especially if you wait for a sale. One word of warning: as others have noted, do look closely at the size before ordering. These "medium" glasses are tiny! We use them almost exclusively as morning juice glasses and have found the larger Aino Aalto tumbler size to be more versatile.

  • I wish these were a little easier to stack...or rather, to un-stack! If they aren't completely dry, or you don't stack gently, it is possible for these glasses to get badly stuck together. We've had to work hard a few times to coax two glasses apart, and once even broke a glass in the process of trying to separate them. That is my only reason for a 4-star review rather than a 5.

What I did not mention in the 1st review was that the shipping was great. 1) it was timely. 2) They are packed impeccably. As I am doing a "new kitchen" soon, I have saved all the boxes and packing to use while we live in the "barn" during the building process! I can hardly wait to unpack these for a second time, and display these in the new kitchen.

I love this color! I wanted blue glasses, but did not want them to scream "blue". They remind me of the water of the Caribbean.
I am getting a new kitchen with open shelving for my dishes and glassware. These are going to look terrific.
They seem and feel sturdy. For the time being, I am putting them in the dishwasher - but not allowing them to touch other items.
The glasses hold what is listed, however that is to the rim! Don't expect to be serving that amount of liquid in these glasses. Unless you want it to dribble down your shirt, figure that you will be serving an ounce (or more) less. Refills are always available!
I purchased 8 of each the medium size (that I will use for juice or wine) and 8 of the large (milk, water, lemonade, etc)
I am thrilled with these glasses and I hope to have them a long time.

Love the Glasses, Not the Color

I already have 7 of these glasses and love them. I was trying to replace a broken one and thought the color was similar, but I was wrong. I would have preferred more color - these were very washed out. I the name of the color is water green but the glasses I have have a richer amount of color.

I've had my glasses for more than 10 years. They are a nice design. They seem to be indestructible and perfect for daily use. They may be small by American standards, but I find that they really are the perfect size for me and my guests. I am hoping to purchase them for my niece to remind her, on a daily basis, of her Finnish heritage. If I had to purchase them, again, I might choose a different color, but the water green is nice and I will continue to live with it.

Great glasses!

This was a replacement order for us, because we have had the glasses for years and enjoy them. We have them in two sizes, medium and large. I was happy to find FinnStyle because the businesses where we purchased them before are no longer in business. Other manufacturers make similar looking styles, but many have the ribs on the inside, not the outside which is such poor design. These feel good in your hand an against your lips. Iittala did it right.
