Q & A
Architect Aino Aalto brought her innovative approach of bledning function and form through honest materials with this glassware. Introduced in 1932, the iittala Aino Aalto tumblers, here in Ultramarine Blue were inspired by ripples of water and won the gold medal at the 1935 Milan Triennial. Almost a century later, the line remains an essential houseware in Finland and internationally thanks to its timeless style and simple design. Durable, versatile, and stackable, the pressed heavy glass has ridges that provide both visual texture and a firm grip in hand. This set of two is dishwasher safe, and in a ultramarine blue, it combines beautifully with any iittala tableware.

Great match to the blues in Taika dinnerware.

I do like this functional size but it’s not “large” by American standards, or at least not West Coast-Hawai’i norms. They need a larger size too for a nice glass of water or tea or cola, or anything you like to get a long, tall drink of. These are like smaller than a DOF. A highball glass in a variety of colors and clear is what I picture. Not sure this AIno Aalto pattern would translate to a taller form but some Iittala colors and forms are needed in taller size holding more ounces.
This ultramarine blue is very good with Taika dinnerware, and the lighter blue picks up the colors well, also. I like a mix.
