Here, the glass is used to create Alvar Aalto's famous "Savoy" vase in a rare 5-1/2" (140 mm) size. Though it works beautifully to hold fresh flowers, Aalto wanted the end user to determine its purpose, and rest assured it can stand alone empty as the award-winning and museum-residing glass art piece it is. While the fluid form feels like a natural occurrence, it takes 7 craftsmen, 12 work stages and 30 hours to create just one of these extraordinary vases.
