Studio Halonen (previously Halonen-Suvala) was founded by Annamaija Halonen in 1995 in Kuopio, Finland. It is there that the Line Grey Plate was designed by Halonen and handcrafted with local Finnish birch and alder. Sustainable and ecological, the plate has been hand-painted and treated with vegetable-based waxes safe for humans, animals, and the environment. The result is a functional piece that retains the raw beauty of nature while creating a new, modern aesthetic. It's perfect for presenting fruit, sweets, baked pastries and other dry goods or as a part of a decorative and distinctive place setting.
This wood serving plate is beautifully sculpted of wood. I chose the one with a grey border and black stripes. The contrast between the wood and the grey border is subtle and beguiling and seems the very essence of good Finnish design. I know this is going to get a lot of use serving fresh fruit, bread, and crackers. I think it's going to be one of my favorite purchases.
