Q & A
In modern literature, "Ultima Thule" is used to reference the furthest possible place in the world, and Tapio Wirkkala’s Ultima Thule glassware collection fittingly draws inspiration from the icy cold reaches of Scandinavia. Made from the expressive power of Finnish glass, the Ultima Thule footed tumbler has textured sides that resemble northern, snowy terrains. Designed in 1968, Wirkkala’s Ultima Thule contributed to iittala’s national breakthrough and remains a distinctive iittala design. The iconic footed tumbler is now available in a special-edition color called "Copper," which is inspired by the Northern Lights and sunsets, perfectly complementing the icy and snowy feel of Ultima Thule.
