Q & A
The iittala Ovalis Vase, originally designed by Tapio Wirkkala in 1958, embodies the timeless modern esthetic, challenging normative forms while achieving function without fuss. A designer of over 400 glass objects and countless other sculptures and innovations, this edition of the iittala Ovalis honors the 100th anniversary of Wirkkala’s birth. Released exclusively in 2015, the base of the iittala Ovalis Grey/Clear Vase is engraved with Wirkkala’s signature and “100 IITTALA 2015”. The mouth-blown, oblong shape is slender, yet displays a variety of blooms and greenery. The subtle ombre of grey to clear adds intrigue to the elegantly simple profile so that the vase stands as a sculpture while empty as well.
