Q & A
Designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1955, the Pirkka stool's original purpose was for cooling off after sauna. The opening in the middle of the seat also serves as handle to easily move the stool from spot to spot to pop a squat. Here, it has been raised up to two taller heights perfect for counters and bars. The legs are made of black-stained solid birch, and the seat is crafted from two pieces of curved pinewood stained a rich brown. This design has roots in Finnish tradition, but with timeless lines that allow it to be seamlessly integrated into modern spaces.
