Q & A
Part of the FIN/JPN collection, which celebrates 100 years of diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan, the Secrets of Finland family is beautifully symbolic. Each of the handcrafted ceramic objects represents and celebrates a seasonal ritual on the Finnish calendar such as Easter, Midsummer, and St. Lucia Day. The sweetly simple yet expressive designs are meant to evoke the pagan past of Finland, and were achieved through close collaboration with COMPANY founders Aamu Song and Johan Olin. Collect all six to tell the full story or gift one that has meaning to someone you share sacred traditions with.
This piece pays ode to an age-old Midsummer tradition. Finnish folklore says that if a girl collects seven wildflowers and sleeps with them beneath her pillow, her future husband will reveal himself in her dreams. This vase includes an insert with seven holes to accommodate the stems for a splendid display.

Arkek’s midsummer dream ceramic vase can be elegant or funky, depending how it’s styled, with flowers or potted plants. Either way , her blissful expression is so charming I couldn’t resist making space for it in my home. I’m so glad I did. It’s a keeper.

Exceptionally charming vase

I contemplated buying this vase for some time. I am a big fan of the matryoshka created by Aamu Song & Johan Olin (Salakauppa) and only wish that FinnStyle might perhaps one day sell their matryoshka as well. The vase is presented with flowers, but I placed a full potted plant inside, making the vase look like a head with tossled hair (see photo). I am thrilled with the purchase.

Vase your fears!

We received this vase as a wedding gift and love the folklore behind it. It's well crafted, and being a neutral color and clean shape, it fits with any decor. The engraved face has a nice calming effect and putting flowers in it makes it look like hair... makes me smile.

While I have no cultural connection to the Finnish inspiration behind this piece, nor to Japan, I found their collaboration between folklore and ceramics quite interesting! The piece is small but functions fine to hold 7 or more floral stems.
