Armchair 42 was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1932. The frame is made out of laminated birch and is manipulated to produce a unique cantilevered shape; creating an armchair without straight lines. The seat and back are molded from one piece of plywood which is laminated in a high-shine lacquer in black or white. The fluidity of this design creates a soft, comfortable place to sit using traditionally rigid materials.
