Carl Nielsen symphonies 2 & 5We are sorry but this item is sold out and no longer available.CARL NIELSEN: Symphony No. 2, Op. 6 (1901 - 02), 'The Four Temperaments' Symphony No. 5, Op. 50 (1920 - 22). BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vanska. Osmo Vänskä goes from strength to strength. The fifty or so recordings that he has made for BIS span a wide range of composers and establish him as a very gifted and versatile conductor. But it was naturally with his recordings of the Sibelius symphonies that he established a reputation as a really significant conductor among a wider public. His Sibelius readings were welcomed as revealing these symphonic masterpieces anew by removing many layers of dark varnish that a long performing tradition has added to the original scores. Vänskä approaches Nielsen in similar fashion. His cycle of the six symphonies is brought to a conclusion with this third disc that presents performances of the second and fifth with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. The first two discs in the series were well received, giving us every reason to suppose that this final disc will be warmly welcomed too. |
