Just like perennial poppies, the Unikko print pleasantly surprises us by popping up every year in fun, new color schemes. The Marimekko Unikko Green/Purple Perenna (Perennial) Backpack features Maija Isola's classic print with apple green petals that pop with purple centers against a dark grey backdrop. The roomy backpack features a baby flap that unsnaps to reveal a drawstring closure to keep your books, clothes, or whatever goodies you keep in this sack secure. The 100% cotton bag also has a convenient inner pocket for smaller items, as well as a reinforced bottom to hold heavier items. Two shoulder straps are adjustable, and a handy hook is perfect for hanging your new favorite accessory when not in use. Whether you're going back to school or to the park for a picnic, the Marimekko Unikko Green/Purple Perenna Backpack has your back.

This is one of the best backpacks ever--roomy, bright and cheerful, fun, fits well and is for sale at a great price.
Pros
Backpacks are my thing because I was a photographer for 20 years. I realized early on that carrying lots of heavy equipment to location shoots could make one shoulder stronger so I started first using a photog backpack then a regular backpack instead of a handbag. I no longer do location shoots but the logic of even distribution of weight still appeals.
When I saw Marimekko's Unikko Green/Purple Perenna Backpack for sale on finnstyle, I took a gamble, because it looked larger than my druthers.
I LOVE this backpack! It's sooooo lightweight and the pattern stands out...I've had more young people compliment my on it than any other purse/backpack I've ever had. I'm a grandmother!
It's much lighter weight than the same bag would be in leather. The canvas fabric is marvelous, what I would call old-fashioned and substantial--I can imagine making a tent with this fabric, but it's not stiff. I do quite a bit of sewing so one of my big laments is that the quality of fabrics has gone down precipitously since the market has been flooded with cheap clothes, imported from China.
This backpack is excellent value for the money, is great fun plus it holds a lot. I no longer carry an extra cloth bag when I go to the mall, because most of what I buy will fit into this backpack.
Cons
I wish it had a lighter-colored lining, a bright lime green for instance. It has a black lining which doesn't show dirt so much though, which is a good thing.
Also, the little silver square-shaped toggle that controls the cord that tightens the opening of the backpack should be redesigned so it works on all four sides of the toggle, instead of just the front and back of the toggle.
