More about Marimekko Metropoli FabricFinnish for “Metropolis”, this pattern was designed in 2011 to celebrate the naming of Helsinki as World Design Capital 2012. This modern black and white design imitates the patterns of a bustling city and its inhabitants, and is also reminiscent of old cobblestone sidewalks commonly found in Europe. The Metropoli print is a busy jumble of thick and thin spots running this way and that in a seemingly chaotic manner, but once you step back, the chaos transforms itself into a beautiful print.

Cities, forever expanding, a mixture of old and new in endless change

Like Tromi Grey/Black, Metropoli is like the universe forever expanding, non-dimensional, highly detailed, complex, a collection of snowflakes on black velvet., not a single statement but a medium to be used in countless ways. It is not
something just to hang and display, but challenging and inviting applications. Like looking up at a sprayed accoustic ceilong and discovering finite patterns and shapes. Or staring up at the night sky when far away from city lights and discovering more and more as you view it.

Pros

I can be combined with other elements both as a stabilizer and a platform for creativity. It can work either by being stretched on multiple frames or hung as a banner.
