Marimekko MansikkavuoretFinnish for “strawberry hills”, the 1969 Mansikkavuoret pattern was designed by Maija Isola and features a fanciful fruit design. Isola was connected to all aspects of her surroundings and pop culture did not escape her creative reach. Inspired by 2 particular songs by The Beatles, in looking at the Mansikkavuoret print you can see the connection between her giant red strawberries floating mid-air and the songs "Strawberry Fields" and "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." Both were released by The Beatles just two years prior this print.
A lively era for Isola, her style employed cartoon-like designs and used heavily-saturated colors and dream-like imagery which rings true to the style of the late 60’s. An artistic genius whose ability to grow yet keep her signature style enabled her to create ground-breaking prints with timeless appeal.
