Marimekko was originally introduced to the American market in the late 1950's and became extremely popular following a December 1960 Sports Illustrated cover showing first Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in a simple pink Marimekko dress.
Cotton and linen fabrics printed at the company's own textile printing factory form the basis of Marimekko interior collections. In addition to Marimekko fabrics, the collections include a wide range of products: Marimekko clothing, handbags, table-setting textiles, bedroom linens, and bathroom towels and accessories.
The same vivid colors and large scale patterns that helped Marimekko establish Finland as a source of cutting-edge style are at the top of fashion once again. Vintage Marimekko designs like the Unikko flower pattern and the Kaiku birch tree print continue to be very popular today.
