iittala honors artist Alvar Aalto with a wonderful collection of products inspired by his work. Modeled after the iconic Alvar Aalto vase, this serving tray possesses the same sensuous lines. The tray is made of sturdy oak and the wood grain gives an intriguing texture to the piece. Make it a part of your home décor and you will appreciate its understated elegance.

Very cool!

This is a great cutting board. I can’t say I’ll be using is for cutting because it’s so stylish. I got it to use as cheese board when I have guests. It also just looks cool on my dining room table with a candle in it. It’s interest and beauty speak for itself.

You think you'll never use it, but you will

For a brick of cheese or a pot of jam, the smaller version of this oak tray is distinctive and utilitarian; the large one looks beautiful, but seems too irregular and clunky for regular use in the kitchen or dining room. Don't worry about it! The large size is big enough for larger items like bread, rolls, fruit, bowls, or just about anything you use at the table. It can also be deployed as a cool cutting board, or just as a cool shape along the splashguard.

  • beautiful, functional, interesting, can be used for presentation, preparation, easy to clean
Cons
  • large, hard to store because of unusual shape, might overwhelm some settings (aesthetically)

A very versatile tray

The large Aalto oak tray is a gorgeous item in an iconic Aalto design. While it's very useful as a serving piece for cheese and fruit, I actually bought it to use as part of a dining table centerpiece. I've put it in the center of a dark mahogany dining table to use as the base for several Georg Jensen candlesticks. These pieces are absolutely stunning together.

Interesting and uniquely-shaped tray

The Aalto large oak tray has brought nothing but smiles and satisfaction to me. Made of solid oak, it is not only sturdy but also able to withstand heat when used as a trivet. It retains its wood grains and wood tone even when used in this way. I've also used it as a prop to elevate certain dishes during meal times. Its quality and versatility makes this an enduring product.
