Q & A
Professor Oiva Toikka's special seasonal bird, the Reed Warbler reflects summer's spell on us with an innate and enchanting sparkle. The talented team of glassblowers at iittala, Finland use a special texturing technique to create these reflective flakes, which pick up the surrounding movement and pigment but tend to favor jewel tones of blue, purple and green. The transparent glass permanently carries a pink tint, but depending on its backdrop and lighting, it can vary from a soft lilac to a rich rose much like summer sunsets.
True to its muse, Reed Warbler has a bulbous head leading to a petite and pointed beak; this forms a translucent teardrop that allows admirers to peer into its stunning glass inner workings. A flat, paddle style tail seems to passionately pull the specks of color in a beautiful blur of windswept motion. Add this special handcrafted creation to your collection of mouth-blown glass birds or present it to someone with the same carefree summer spirit as Reed Warbler; whether gifted or kept, it will be forever loved for its one-of-a-kind beauty.

Steals the show...
January 7, 2015
This bird fits in so nicely with my others. In fact, with its iridescent spots and beautifully tinted glass, I'd have to say that this bird steals the show. As always, it was packed safely and shipped fast. I think it looks better in real life than it does in the picture!
