A new take on Taika, the iittala Siimes Dinnerware gives us a fresh glimpse into designer Klaus Haapaniemi's enchanting world of whimsy. Haapaniemi designed Taika (Magic) in 2009, and in celebration of the ten year anniversary comes Siimes. Meaning Shade in Finnish, Siimes refers to the place our forest friends stop to rest from the sun. Deer, wood grouses, and hedgehogs are the new characters to join the owls and foxes of the Taika collection. The brighter colors bring a spring-like feel to the table and are easily combined with other iittala Dinnerware collections like Teema. Made from vitreous porcelain, this salad plate is microwave, oven, freezer, and dishwasher safe for convenient everyday use, despite looking like china reserved for special occasions. With Siimes, every day is an occasion worthy of a setting that tells a special story.
Care: Microwave, oven, freezer, and dishwasher safe.

I had bought two dinner bowls with this pattern and I love them so much I bought the salad plates and mugs. I hope to keep adding to my collection. They hold a good amount of food and their unique design makes them ideal for serving guests.

Forest grouse salad plate

What a fun design. It brings in all the sounds and highlights of a walk in the forest listening to the birds. The dimensions, color, finish and toughness make it an everyday joy on the table.
Pros
Bright and cheery. It can handle the everyday needs for use and washing. Holds a proper portion of food and stacks neatly.

We use this with the Taikia plates

We have a set of Taikia plates - and have broken several of the salad plates. I wanted to see what these looked like, the colors don't match exactly, but they are close enough and correspond with the traditional folk tale theme.
