Named Kastehelmi (dewdrop) after the bubbled detailing on the pressed glass, this collection was originally produced from 1964-1988 and brought back to celebrate Oiva Toikka's 50 year mark as a designer. The bubbled design wraps around the jar, including the base, while the lid is contrastingly smooth. The lid protects the contents as it has a rubber seal, but it is also safe for popping on and off the jar, as it is made of acrylic in a completely matching hue. Stash cinnamon sticks, chocolates, sugar cubes, or even succulents in this elegant glass jar.

These jars are perfect for storing imperishable foods like dried fruit, candy, and nuts. They're not very large, more like jewel boxes. The lids fit securely but are easy to remove. They stack beautifully, and it's fun to collect different colors as they become available.

Everyday jar raises the ante

This exquisite glass container is used in our house to prosaic purpose. It stores the “leftover”surplus from the evenings meal that is saved for later in the week. The jar is large, and the glass pattern not only refracts light in interesting ways, but helps provide a solid grip. It elevates whatever it contains to precious status.

A beautiful, soft grey

The Kastehelmi design is on of iittala's most beautiful lines. The character of this design can change, depending on the color of the glass. There are some beautiful, vibrant jewel-like colors that are very lively. This version, in a soft grey, is somberly beautiful. I use it on my contemporary natural birch and grey Finnish desk to hold large clips. Although its air-tight seal makes it ideal for use with foods in the kitchen, the jar's versatility makes it useful in any setting.
