Q & A
2012 is a big year for Finland. Its capital, Helsinki, has been named 2012 World Design Capital. To celebrate, Marimekko has re-released a celebratory pattern designed by the late Per-Olof Nyström in 1952. Featuring stylized views of Helsinki landmarks, from the Sederholm House to the Helsinki Cathedral, Kauppahalli to Ravintola NJK on Valkosaari Island, and Uspenski Cathedral to the Helsinki Library and beyond, the print knows its way around town. The Marimekko Helsinki-Helsingfors Blue Fabric is 100% cotton with a sky blue background and white & black buildings stylized in the art nouveau fashion for which Nyström was famous.
Fabric is sold by the yard. (See secondary image for an approximation of one yard.)

I love this wonderful Helsinki fabric....It is top quality, the images are clear and well balanced throughout the design. The buildings depicted are full of charming detail. I am having so much fun making bags and craft projects using this fabric.
Pros
The design has classic elegance and charm....little birds sit atop the steeples and sail through the sky; the boats bob in the water, and the starry sun establishes the mood of a beautiful port city.
Cons
In my opinion, $48 is an awful lot of money for one yard of fabric. It took a great effort for me to overcome my thrifty instincts to splurge on this fabric (having free shipping helped.) However, having received the fabric now I really feel it was worth every penny!
