Every year, Toikka creates a bird for this Finnish celebration, and this year’s is a true delight. The stunning Alaska Loon has a unique texture accomplished through an innovative technique. Workers at the Nuutajärvi glass factory discovered that dirt left in the molds created tracery like patterns on the glass. Oiva Toikka saw the potential in these unique marks and decided to incorporate them into the design on his new bird collection. The Alaska Loon is striking both in texture and in form. It has a graceful neck, upon which rests a vibrant yellow head and metallic blue beak. The bright use of color for the head and beak provides a nice contrast to the otherwise white bird. This bird is a limited edition Toikka creation, with only 500 in production. Make one of these rare birds yours before they are gone forever.
