2008 Arabia Fauna Plate - FrogThis item is no longer available.
In 2000, iittala Arabia started a collectors’ series of art plates. Finnish fables that imaginatively tell about folklore and the richness of Finnish nature were selected to be the theme of these collectors’ items. Two art plates – one square and one round – that depict the animals and plants that appear in the stories are released each year.
For 2008, iittala Arabia presents us with the Frog and the Willowherb. This pair of art plates is based on the fable of the Dove’s eye and the frog’s ear.
“A dove and a frog were boasting, the dove about her sight, the frog about his hearing. Said the dove, ‘I can see a turnip seed sitting on the highest branch of a tree.’ The frog replied, ‘But my hearing is better than yours.’ The dove pecked at the seed and flew across the lake with the seed in her beak. Then she dropped it in the lake, to which the frog said, ‘What was that great big splash?’ That’s why they say that you can have an eye as sharp as a dove and an ear as sharp as a frog.”
Each plate is accompanied by a small booklet describing the fable and the history of the Arabia Flora & Fauna series. In addition, each plate has a certificate of authenticity ensuring it's a genuine Arabia piece.
Measures approximately: 8” x 8” (20 x 20 cm)
