Halloween in Finland?
Do Finns celebrate Halloween in Finland? Not really. You might find some dressing up in costumes or having parties, but it's not a widely celebrated day in Finland and is mostly celebrated by kids at schools or daycares - but if you find a party to go to, why not bring some of these delicious Fazer Halloween Cupcakes? While you won't find many Finns celebrating Halloween, "All Saints' Day" is a traditional holiday you will find Finns observing. All Saints' Day (Pyhäinpäivä) falls on the first Saturday between October 31st and November 6th. This is a day to remember the deceased and is a solemn, quiet day - quite the opposite of Halloween.
Dumle Halloween Cupcakes Recipe
Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 10 minutes (+10 minutes for topping) | Decorating: 15 minutes
Cupcake Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 4 tbsp salted butter
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping Ingredients
Decoration Ingredients
- 12 Dumle candies
- 4 pieces of your favorite black licorice
- Small white star candy decorations
- White sugar fondant
- 2 Dumle candies
- Small white round candy decorations
- Edible glue
Directions (Cupcakes):
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, crack eggs and add brown sugar and vanilla extract. Stir.
- Slowly mix in the flour and baking powder until the batter is a smooth consistency.
- Pour the batter evenly into 8 muffin cups.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until done (use a toothpick to test).
- Allow the cupcakes cool.
Directions (Cupcake Topping):
- Place the Dumle candies and water into a small pan, at low heat, constantly stirring until you have a smooth, fluid consistency.
- Spread the the topping evenly over the cupcakes using the back of a spoon or spatula.
- Allow the topping to cool.
Directions (Decoration):
- Cut 4 Dumle candies in half.
- Roll the chocolate halfs (one at a time) in your hand until you get a little ball.
- Put whole Dumle (spider body) and one Dumle ball (head) on each cupcake.
- Take two small white candies (the eyes) and affix them to head.
- Affix one candy star decoration to the back.
- Cut the licorice sticks into 3/4" lengths. Cut to width as needed depending on the licorice you use.
- Attach the licorice to each other (tip: cut the end of the licorice at a 45 degree angle) and then the head.
