2010 Arabia Fauna Plate - Wood DoveWe are sorry but this item is sold out and no longer available.
In 2000, iittala Arabia started a collectors' series of art plates. Finnish fables that imaginatively tell about folklore and the richness of Finnish nature were selected to be the theme of these collectors' items. Two art plates – one square and one round – that depict the animals and plants that appear in the stories are released each year.
For 2010, iittala Arabia presents us with a dove and a cherry branch. This pair of art plates is based on the fable titled, "The Dove Saves The Fly."
A fly fell into the water. A dove sitting in a tree saw that the fly was about to drown. He dropped a leaf from the tree to save the fly. The fly climbed onto the leaf. And so the dove saved the fly from drowning. Some time later, a hunter with a rifle came into the forest. He saw the dove perched on a branch and took aim. The fly came and bit the hunter's hand. The hunter's hand jerked, the rifle went off, but the bullet did not hit the dove. The dove flew away. And so a good deed is repaid with another.
Each plate is accompanied by a small booklet describing the fable and the history of the Arabia Flora & Fauna series. In addition, each plate has a certificate of authenticity ensuring it's a genuine Arabia piece.
