iittala Toikka Snow Finch

This is lovely bird with a transparent body with wonderful white spots that gleam in the sunlight. Since the body is transparent as one walks around there is an interplay between the spots in front of the bird's body and those in the back. Also, due to the bird's shape whatever is behind him is distorted in interesting ways, so I placed him on a window sill to take advantage of his light-bending abilities. He is accompanied on the window sill by a muted blue iittala Toikka Vuono 2019 Annual Bird not only because I thought that blue and white would go nicely together and their different sizes would be visually interesting, but the Snow Finch's spots, when in a northern window seem to glow with a slight blue cast.

I started an Oiva Toikka bird collection for my daughter to remind her of her Finnish heritage. The snow finch is a beautiful addition-the "heft" of the piece, beautiful coloring and design are perfect.

The bird is a delight to look at - the clear glass with the ribbons of white and grey. It is a lovely addition to my collection and will be part of the mantle display all year round.
