The Finnish Cookbook

My Mom grew up in Finland so I bought this cookbook so I could make the recipes my Mom knew by heart (and never wrote down her recipes). I love the cookbook, it has many very good recipes!

Perfect collection of Finnish classics!

I owned a copy of this cookbook years ago; I gave it to a friend of mine whose father's family were from Finland. Over the years, I intended always to obtain another copy of the book. Now, I have done so and look forward to re-acquainting myself with some of the very unusual (to my American experience) recipes contained within. Just in time for my Christmas Eve buffet!

Another wonderful Bea Ojakangas cookbook. So easy to read and illustrations are helpful.

I've just begun looking through the recipes and I'm anxious to try some rye bread. (That's as far as I have read so far.) I like the history that is also included in the book. My background is Finnish on my father's side and Swed-Finnish on my mother's.

I purchased this as a gift and think that my friend will love it.

I am very happy with the Finnish cook book as it has all the old recepes that Mum made but i had not learned how much of the ingredients were used in them.

Also the History of our language , which is something i did not know, so all in all a very informative book.

I was an exchange student to Finland in the mid 70's and have been trying to find the recipe for rhubarb crisp since I got back. It's a good thing I was home alone when the book arrived since I gave a squeal of delight and did a happy dance at finding the recipe. And as an added bonus there's a lot of other recipes I remembered.

Excellent recipes with simple, fresh tastes and pleasing visual results. Lots of variety and uses easy-to-find ingredients. Beatrice Ojakangas' introduction of Finnish home traditions reminds me of my pride in my heritage. I will use this regularly.

I have been using this cookbook for over 40 yrs. My sister and daughter also have it. Both my sister and I have Finnish husbands. We love cooking and baking all the Finnish recipes. Even Finnish friends now use recipes from this cookbook since I told them about the cookbook. I haven't made anything that I don't like. What I like it has both the English and finnish names for each recipe.

I first bought Beatrice Ojakangas cookbook in Finlad in the 70's - it was designed for US audience but I could still work around it. Now it is all spotty and stained but I just woudn't get rid of this book for anything. If you are wanting to explore Finnish cooking this book is certainly the best I have found. Also Sue Lawrence from Scotland has a brilliant fishpie recipe modified from Finnish recipe.

It is a wedding present for my sister and brother-in-law. I was excited to get her a Finnish cookbook since we are half Finnish and it was also on her shower/wedding registry.
