In modern literature, Ultima Thule is used to reference the furthest possible place in the world. Tapio Wirkkala's Ultima Thule glassware similarly references the icy cold reaches of Scandinavia and the distinct expressive power of Finnish glass. Designed in 1968, Wirkkala's Ultima Thule contributed to iittala's national breakthrough and remains a distinctive iittala design.

Customers praised the timeless Nordic design that 'stands the test of time' with an ice-like surface providing good grip. Most described them as beautiful, elegant, durable, and comfortable to hold. However, one customer reported quality inconsistency, noting tumblers were thicker than Finnish versions with varying base thickness between pairs.
I have lived in Finland for many years and always loved iittala products. However the quality of these cups are just not the same. The pair of the tumbler I got are much thicker than what I get from Finland. What is worse is that the two glasses vary in quality: one has a much thicker base than the other (picture attached). Customer response was "even if I get a replacement they will be of the same quality as the ones I received" -- ? I am just afraid of getting another inferior pair. One star for the product and four stars for their fast response and agreed to arrange a refund.
Ultima Thule glasses are mouth blown in Finland and can have varying thicknesses. All the glasses we sell have passed quality control at the iittala factory and are deemed first-quality. We carry only authentic first-quality iittala glassware - the same one would get in Finland, from the same factory.
Perfect addition to my newly renovated guest room, the 'Suomi Suite'. It's decorated with many designs from Finland including, of course, iittala. Beautiful!

When shopping for new glassware, I came across these timeless, beautifully designed glasses. They were very familiar to me since my mother owned the very same ones when I was growing up. They are nostalgic and more lovely than I had originally remembered them. When making my selection, I learned that my fianc? who is Finnish, also grew up with the same glassware in his home! We admire the beauty of our table everyday and appreciate a bit of our past. I would highly recommend these glasses based on the design, quality and beauty.
I love these glasses. Have several of them. The ice like surface is beautiful and also provides a good grip.
With this purchase I completed my set of 6 Thule footed tumblers. I became enthralled with them when I flew in Business Class on FinnAir (they were used in the food and drinks service). In my opinion they embody the beauty and functionality of Nordic design.
We have had these tumblers for many years and they have been admired by dear friends who will be celebrating a 60th anniversary...what better gift then to buy some for them.. Can't wait to gift them!
