Tove Jansson
Tove Jansson (1914–2001) was a beloved Finnish-Swedish author, artist, and illustrator, best known as the creator of the Moomins, a cast of gentle, whimsical characters that have become iconic in children's literature. Born in Helsinki to an artistic family, she trained in fine arts in Stockholm, Helsinki, and Paris, and initially made her name as a painter and cartoonist. The first Moomin book, The Moomins and the Great Flood (1945), was followed by several more, including the classics Finn Family Moomintroll and Moominland Midwinter, which combined playful fantasy with subtle philosophical depth. She lived much of her life on a remote Finnish island with her lifelong partner, artist Tuulikki Pietilä, which deeply influenced her writing and worldview. Tove Jansson remains one of Finland’s most cherished cultural figures, celebrated globally for her distinctive blend of imagination, empathy, and art.

About Finnish Design
Finnish design has a long history and is know for simplicity, functionality, and craftsmanship. It's trademark designs emerged in the early 20th century, and gained international attention through pioneers like Alvar Aalto in architecture and furniture, as well as companies such as Iittala, Artek, and Marimekko. Their work emphasized clean lines, natural materials, and a harmonious balance between beauty and practicality. Everything must have a purpose.
