More about iittala

Iittala’s thoughtful approach to objects has made it one of the most iconic names in Scandinavian design. Glassblower Peter Magnus Abrahamson founded the Iittala Glass Factory in 1881 on the shores of Lake Äimäjärvi in Iittala, Finland. Today, iittala continues its long tradition of Finnish glass making at the same historic factory.

Iittala collaborated with many prominent 20th-century designers like Alvar and Aino Aalto, Kaj Franck, and Timo Sarpaneva to create pieces that fully embraced modernism and functionalism. Contributing award-winning pieces like the famous Aalto vase, Teema dinnerware, the Sarpaneva pot, and more, their enduring designs remain a symbol of modern design culture and continue to be produced by iittala today. These early designers also helped in shaping iittala’s overall brand identity, which centers on creating objects that are equally timeless, practical, and beautiful. Additionally, their versatile and multi-functional objects encouraged users to interpret and use the pieces in their own way.

Although iittala started with glassware, they have expanded into ceramics, cookware, and interior décor. As of 2007, iittala is now part of the Fiskars Group and continues to innovate through fresh collaborations while staying true to its heritage. Iittala continues to turn ordinary household objects into beautiful, lasting pieces of design that can be passed down from generation to generation. Their unique blend of art and utility has resonated with people around the globe, making Iittala a pioneer of timeless Finnish craftsmanship.
